A brief history

Fèis Arainn was started in 1993 with a week-long event in June involving all the pupils of the High School with some workshops arranged for primary pupils also.

A second similar week of activities was held in 1997 as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Arran High School.

In 1998 a new committee was formed with a view to running a 4-day Fèis during the school holidays and the first of these was held during the last week of July 1999 with over 60 youngsters from all the Primary Schools and the High School attending.

With the help of Fèisean nan Gàidheal and North Ayrshire Council it has continued successfully in this form ever since and attracts good numbers with many returning year after year.

Several participants have built on their experience at the Fèis by developing their skills in various musical directions – for example joining the Pipe Band, playing at Cèilidhs, forming their own band or attending Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic College in Skye or The Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow.
